Magnitude 7.3 Earthquake strikes off the Northern Sumatra Coast

(TheWeatherSpace.com) - The United States Geological Survey has indicated that a magnitude-7.3 earthquake has struck off the Northern Sumatra coast, about 250 miles from land on Wednesday morning.

The strong earthquake hit on Wednesday morning at 12:37 a.m. local time. The quake has no produced a tsunami warning from the warning center yet.

This area is prone to large earthquakes, the largest being farther south, hitting in December of 2004. It generated a major tsunami.

No more information is available on this earthquake at the current time.
