(TheWeatherSpace.com) - The NASA SOHO Spacecraft recorded a solar flare that sent material toward the Earth, at a slower speed than usual. This will cause a geomagnetic storm.

The density readings are rising at the current time and this marks the outer edge of the solar flare, expected today or tomorrow (Oct. 5).

The Sun is rather quiet at the time with only a few large sunspot regions to speak of, but none pose a risk of powerful solar flares at the time.

That could change with more sunspots rounding the other side of the Sun and back toward the Earth again.

Skywatchers should be on the alert for the aurora starting today.
