(TheWeatherSpace.com) - Space Radiation risk is rising with increased Solar Flares and Sunspots, contributing to geomagnetic storms from Coronal mass ejections in Space, says NASA.
Planes and astronauts are very vulnerable to geomagnetic storm activity. These have been known to wipe radio signals clean, remove the navigation capabilities, and even create the ingredients for plane crashes.
A solar flare is not an easy process, but scientists can forecast geomagnetic activity almost as good as weather. We call this type of forecasting "space weather."
NASA has satellites out there that measure sunspot activity. These sunspots create a solar flare, or coronal mass ejection. These propel out into space and cause a geomagnetic storm here on Earth.
It is a scary concept, but scientists at NASA are convinced that the solar maximum will bring about a strong solar flare season lasting a couple of months, centering 2012 to 2013. What will happen? Stay tuned ...
