No larger image avail(TheWeatherSpace.com) -- Earthquakes have struck the area and it was not known whether they triggered a volcanic eruption, however officials have confirmed it.
The Dubbi volcano has not erupted since between 1861 and the 20th century. It is 5,331 feet tall and located in the Southern Red Sea Region, Eritrea.
TWS Senior Meteorologist Kevin Martin questions what this might do for hurricane season.
"We know volcanic eruptions can cause global weather pattern changes due to the ash in the stratosphere," said Martin. "But this volcano is located where tropical systems are born. Now by born I do not mean named, but the convection comes from Northwestern Africa and the ash clouds is heading into the Atlantic over the next week."
There is no way to know for certain on the effects of an African Volcanic eruption but Alaska and Russian volcanoes have been known to tamper with the global temperature and patterns.TheWeatherSpace.com's Official Facebook Page
