Strong positive vorticity advection at 500mb will be what triggers the storms across the area today. Discreet supercell potential that may lead to large hail/damaging winds, and or isolated tornadoes will be likely through the evening hours across the watch box.

Backing winds are most probable near the Vermont areas … but a mass majority of the area does not have it so this was limited to a severe thunderstorm watch as the main reason for not upgrading it.
