TheWeatherSpace.com has issued TWS Severe Thunderstorm Watch 020
Effective this afternoon through tonight
Issued May 8, 2024 – 10:30 a.m. CDT
Visible satellite images shows the watch area with mostly clear skies, which should bring temperatures into the 90s, thus the instability should be strong.
Temperatures in the 90s with dewpoints in the 50s and lower 60s will make a large dewpoint depression, meaning landspout tornadoes will be possible today, however the soundings showing the inverted-v profiles suggests more of a large hail/damaging wind day than acceptable tornado threat.
Storms should form at the TX/OK border zones, pushing eastward from there. As stated, there is a chance of isolated tornado activity … but it is not enough to include a full Tornado Watch product and the mention in this will due. Very large hail is likely today, on the order of two inches or higher, with damaging downdraft winds with any collapsing supercells.
